How to reach
Tawang is a remote location nestled between lofty Himalayan mountains and hence doesn’t have a direct railway route or an airport of its own.
You can reach Tawang by road only. It is connected to other towns in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam by road.
Tawang can be reached through Tezpur, a town in Assam.
By Air – Tezpur is connected to Kolkata and Guwahati by air.
By Rail – You can reach Tezpur from Guwahati railway station.
From Tezpur, it takes around 24 hours in a local bus and 12 hours in jeeps/taxis to reach Tawang.

Permit Requirements: Tawang is in Arunachal Pradesh, close to the border between India and China. Hence, you need a permit to visit it even if you are an Indian citizen. You can get one easily at Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Resident Commissioner’s Office in Kolkata or Guwahati.
